The Great Communtiy Public Radio Construction Permit Race between KHOI
88.3 Story City- hoping to cover Ames and KUBU 88.7 Coggon hoping to
cover Cedar Rapids to see who can build-out their stations and be First on the air: is
ON!!!
IowaFM in celebration of administering a successful FCC Application for
Bandwidth into the Construction Permit for KUBU 88.7 FM now mandated to
take to Live-Air on or before February 3rd, 2012: would like to begin a
Community Program Internet Stream to get a sound of what
Iowa's First Full Power Community Public Radio station will feel like.
IowaFM Community Public Radio Stations will be built with Community Partnerships,
sustained with Listener Support and use Open Source Software to operate power plant,
stations and studios.
Open-Source provides an opportunity for people to work on
software with others that share the same interest, exchanging ideas,
knowledge, and work with one another, to expand and improve the operation.
IowaFM's motivation for building community medias working with Open Source systems
is that it enables persons in the community to participate in originating programming
fromdifferent sources, Hoover Studios, or (with the right microphones and equiptment)
from home. IowaFM includes limited-support with those working on their radio-segments
for air-time with Open Source Audacity found at http://audacity.sourceforge.net.
Programs intended for playback when KUBU/KHOI begin our Broadcast-to-LiveAir must
be submitted as .wav-file on disk to:
IowaFM-Hoover Studios / 224 N. Dubuque St./ Iowa City, Iowa 52245
or email mp3 to: traffic@iowafm.org
It is this combination of motivations that has brought together a team who successfully
achieved bandwith for Iowans and make what IowaFM is today - A good idea. what it may
be in the future - a Read Write (RW) FM Service amidst a Read Only (RO) Media Landscape.
and an active and growing RW community, able to contribute their own ideas, unique talents
and responses ultimately sharing use of the Airwaves/Bandwidth on a Read-Write platform.
This exists for the public interest, convenience & necessity to empower communities to
create regional Read-Write Public Telecommunications Service solutions within listening areas.
Open Source software always remain open providing the opportunity for us to work on it,
at our own time.
A word on Open Source software, it is open. Open provides choice. The
choice to use the software, the choice to learn the software, and the
choice to join, share, and participate in a community - a community
full of enthusiastic supporters that want to see the software grow and
interact with Rural Iowa Broadcast High-Speed Internet and FM 88.7KUBU.
